50 on 50

This post is monumental! It represents the 50th post on my blog! In one sense it's a great accomplishment, but then I realized I've been blogging for 8 moths now, and that's only an average of 6 post a month! I plan to do better for the next 50 post! ;)\

Anyway, since the stage of life I'm in is mostly consumed with motherhood, I thought I'd do a special post that follows suit:

50 random musings on Motherhood

1. There are no words to describe the feeling of holding your child for the first time.

2. These very beings that bring us so much joy, can cause us so much grief.

3.Children have us as parents figured out, way before we can figure them out.

4. Tough love is just that....tough.

5. 8 hours of sleep is a luxury.

6. Seeing your child uncomfortable with sickness is heart wrenching.

7. Going grocery shopping alone is exhilarating.

8. Being humiliated in the grocery store is not.

9. A diaper pail with a few days worth requires a bomb squad.

10. Potty training a toddler boy take a police force.

11. Hearing "the wheels on the bus" 25 times in a row gives you a headache.

12. Curious George is a very disobedient monkey.

13. Carrots make great space shuttles, and you can "hook-up" french fries to chicken nuggets.

14. Simultaneous naps is a phenomenon.

15. Making a baby laugh, is the best medicine.

16. 3 changes of clothes a day doesn't seem unreasonable.

17. 6 loads of laundry a week does.

18. A teething baby can compromise your sanity.

19. Waking up each morning with a song in your heart makes the day go better.

20. Eating a snack alone requires locking the bathroom door or sitting in the dark.

21. The floor after meal time looks like the aftermath of a natural disaster.

22. The tupperware drawer is prime real estate for imaginative play.

23. Small children on airplanes can give you ulcers.

24. Hearing a toddler pray is often humorous.

25. And tear jerking.

26. Daddy is always way more fun.

27. Grandma is even more fun.

28. Going to Costco is as exciting as 6 flags.

29. A whole day can be consumed with feed: change: nap: rinse: repeat...

30. Having a 3 year old "shadow" is freightening.

31. Hearing your "shadow" sing to his baby brother is heart melting.

32. Watching your "shadow" fold laundry, brings a smile.

33. The bathroom is no longer a place of privacy.

34. Unless the door is locked, and your trying to sneak a snack.

35. Contentment comes with those lazy days when books, blankeys, and bottles all find their way in my lap.

36. I have a love/hate relationship with pacifiers.

37. Nursery rhymes seem so morbid for the audience they we're intended.

38. Carseats come with a user guide an inch thick.

39. And thats just the English version.

40. Now, I'm really digging deep to think of some more musings.

41. There's something delightful about discovering the simple things of Creation with a toddler.

42. Cleaning the dirt & grime out of the tub after a day of discovering is detestable.

43. The noise that the tub drain makes has been known to cause pandamonia.

44. Having a public bathroom toilet automatically flush on you causes pandamonia every time.

45. I often learn more from my children, than my children learn from me.

46. Being consistent is frustratingly difficult.

47. There have been times that I've sat with tears pouring down my face, asking God how these children are intended to bless.

48. There have been times that I have sat with tears pouring down my face in thankful-ness for these incredible blessings that God has given me!

49. I think of how much our lives as Mothers is a sacrafice, but then think how much God sacraficed for US!

50. And I've finally reached 50, but would love to hear what you all have to add!

benefits of 2...continues...

Several months ago, I had some what of an epiphany on how much fun my two boys we're going to have together! I was excited to see them develop a friendship and learn to enjoy each others company whilst they played!
Well, today I felt compelled to re-visit those wishful thoughts and check-in with reality! Let me tell you, they don't always enjoy each others company and when they's in a much different way than I had envisioned! :)
We took down G's toddler bed to make more room in C's room, and I never would've imagined the fun these two could come up with on a bare mattress thrown on the floor! I also never would've imagined that such "little" boys could play so......well, so much like BOYS! (aka, head butting, wrestling, rough housing)

Clearly, who had the upper hand is pretty evident...but let me tell you, Blondy was holding his own pretty good for as little as he is! Most days, I've found I have to place them both in their respective rooms to keep peace in the house! It seems like their little "selfish hearts" don't seem to be getting the memo that I keep posting! Now that little brother is mobile, nothing is off limits and big brother doesn't appreciate his stuff "re-arranged".

Usually the pattern goes...bartering, protesting, hollering...and then crying! (by either or both parties!) If at this point in time I haven't intervened, big brother feels like justice is somehow served if he sits on top of little brother to prevent any further trespasses!

But, for this moment, the mattress served as the medium for enjoyment they found in each other and I just sat back and smiled! ( and grabbed the camera to catch it on film:) And, I'm once again finding myself looking forward to more of THESE moments!

from baby to toddler

He's 10 months, my baby is! He moves at the speed of light, and makes a mess of everything he touches. Whatever big brother has, he sets his sights and is not easily deterred!

But at the end of the dirty day, he snuggles like the best of them! I look at him and can't believe how much faster his "baby days" have went by than G's did! I guess that comes along with being #2!
He continues to look more and more like his daddy, and he's becoming more and more a daddy's boy! He makes a bee-line for the door when he hears daddy come home, and turns his body away from me whenever he's being handed back! Just fine by me though because the position of "mommy's boy" has long been taken! ;)

And this is our newest trick! "Bye-Bye" to all!

Living/Kitchen: Room Reveal II

As I sit here and look at the photos I've just uploaded and try to think of some kind of dialogue or description to type, I'm thinking to myself..."this really is an un-realistic portrayal of my home." I can assure you it is not a place of picture perfect cleanliness & tidiness on a daily basis, and yes we do "live" here with toddlers! ;)

Just this morning as I was doing the scurry-to -get-out-the-door, while dressing Little Wiggles, a whole bottle of water was dumped on the kitchen floor as Mr. Fixit tried to "paint" the cabinets. I was just counting my blessings as I mopped up the mess, that the "paint" was just water!
I imagine I'll look back at this blog series in 5 years, and marvel at the un-marked walls, scuff-less floors, and tear free upholstery! (but the sweet memories the will hopefully have been made will make-up for them! ;)

If you remember back to my first post, Home Sweet Home, I told a little history on our house and what she's come from! I won't go it all of that again, but I will insert a little before shot!
(This is taken from a east facing position towards the dining rm & part of the kitchen.)

We did take out a couple walls, and added the bartop counter, so you kinda gotta use your imagination a little to see that it's the same room!

Here's a better shot of the kitchen, just for fun!

The kitchen was actually re-modeled in Phase I, so thankfully it was in working order for the Phase II project. The dining room is missing chairs and my china cabinet, which is another project for a rainy day! I've enjoyed having the open archways between these three rooms for several reasons. I can comfortably chat with whoever is in the living room, I can pass food directly to guest at the dining table and it expands the circumference of my surveillance on the boys as they play! ;)

Unfortunately, they both are capable of leaving the boundries of these rooms, as they did about 15 minutes, I better call this a wrap and see what "fun" they're having now!

They're hitched! Officially it was last Sat., but to stay true to my blogging habits, I'm posting about it a week later! ;) It was a gorgeous evening in so many aspects, except for the beads of sweat running down every ones backs as the love birds exchanged their "i-do's".

The weather had cooled down from a sweltering 104* to about 98*, but fortunately the ceremony was in a pretty shaded area and didn't commence until close to 7pm.
I might add here that a person of my stature does not have the ability or luxury to see very well in large crowds or settings of this type! Therefore, I will spare you the horrible photography that I strained to take during the ceremony!

As we walked the short walk down the oak lined driveway, it was like entering an exclusive party in Napa Valley! Simply breath taking! In my book, olive branches + burlap + bistro lights = beautiful, no matter how you mix it!

Now for a word on the cake! Well, display it on a wine barrel and I'm already sold, but this beauty was a whole lot more than just pretty to look at! Y to the U to the M!

I just realized we're out of sequence here, but none the less...the hors d'oeuvres we're enough to make a meal on!

And here we are back at the reception, where I need to introduce to you my first official house guests! She was a stunning bridesmaid and I got the pleasure of having her for a whole week before her hubby arrived! Alright, so maybe she did come to help the bride, but let me tell you I put her to work when she thought she had some down time! :) Thank you my dear friend, I've missed your sweet smile in the mornings!

It would only be appropriate to add a quick note on the "chandelier"! Oh glory, this honey hung above the bridal table before lovingly shedding it's soft glow on the evenings end!

And in theme with the holiday weekend, we sent them off with sparkling light and well wishes!

...and they lived Happily Ever After! ;)
